I did my first full gig with Mixxx last night, and I think it turned out very well. The last time I did any spinning was probably about 1998, and I was carrying crates of vinyl up the fire escape in the winter... good times. Anyway, Mixxx has been great, and I appreciate the ability to just grab my laptop bag and head out. The only trouble I ran into last night was with playlist management.
The primary DJ and I traded off sets, 45 min on, 45 off. I had previously set up a playlist, and pre-populated it with a lot of stuff I thought I'd use last night, but ended up going to the library to make changes, and to re-think my plans for the next set during my "off" time. The trouble is that when I would return to the playlist, all of the "played" markings had been cleared, making it easy to lose track of exactly what I had really played vs what was in my head from earlier in the day. I think it would be great if Mixxx would retain "played" status for the duration of a run, with some option to manually reset the markings if needed.
The second problem I had was that it seems Mixxx was marking tracks as played as soon as I loaded them in a deck. Sometimes I was trying to decide which of several candidate tracks to play next, and I would drop them in a deck and cue them to help make my decision. Since the tracks were now marked as having been played, it added to my growing confusion over where I had really been vs where I had planned to go. I think the tracks shouldn't be marked as played until you have actually hit the "Play" button, not "Cue".
That's all I've got for now. Thanks for the great project, and I'm looking forward to 1.10, it sounds like it's going to be great.
