Type of Vinyl Timecode works with Mixxx?

Postby zinalias » Tue Dec 27, 2011 9:10 pm

Hi, i want to know if any of the Time code vinyls from Serato and Traktor works with Mixxx.

Also, can i use mi internal Soundcard to work with it to scratch my files? i have a Macbook Pro. or do i need an external interface?

Thanks a lot, its so great to have this affordable option for digital scratch, as you mention, the regular sistems are expensive, and living in Mexico its even more. So now i just need to be sure that this Traktor vinyls works well to start having fun.

Thank you again.

Take a look at the Vinyl Control wiki page. In short, both Traktor and Serato records will work (you can even use both at the same time with Mixxx v1.10.0) but you will likely need an external audio interface since I know of no laptop that has stereo line input built-in. The Electrix EBox 44 is a good bet.

Hi, i posted a coment in the morning but i dont see it, maybe something failed, so ill post it again.

First of all thank you very much, i checked that link, very useful info, made me realise a big mistake i was going to.
but still have some thoughts about the setup. Now i see the laptop have to be between the turntable and the mixer, right? but since im just going to use 1 turntable (only scratch come voices and stuff while playing a beat or a song), i dont see the need for 2 stereo inputs, i could use a 1 stereo input audio interface, am i right? and if this is true, let me insist, could i use my laptops built in stereo Line input? its not a Mono input, its Stereo. if not, why is that? the latency seems to be short enuff to handle it.
In the case that i need an external interface, the one you recomended its hard to get it here in Mexico, even in a couple of USA audio stores its not available (and it was in the catalog), so i saw a beheringer UFO202 with phono input, u think this will work fine or need for a better one? i know beheringer its not that bad, but...
anyway, its the cheapest and i cant even aford it right now so... thats why im trying to use the built in one.
Ok, Thank you very much again.
hope u can come with a good and cheap news for me, jaja

As long as your computer's input is truely stereo, you can indeed just use that for single-deck vinyl control. (Mixxx 1.10 lets you switch which virtual deck the turntable is controlling on-the-fly as well.)

Hi, i havent try it to use a timecode vinyl yet, but yesterday i saw in the preferences of Mixxx, in the section of vinyl control, a note that says "This vesion or Mixxx does Not suport vinyl control". Do you know why is that? i have the latest version 1.10.0 (r3034). is there something i need to do to activate this function or something?
Thanks

Are you on Mac OSX and downloaded Mixxx from the App Store? Download the version from our web site, http://www.mixxxx.org instead. (The App Store version has to have vinyl control disabled due to licensing restrictions.)

Also note that you can't get version 1.10.0 from the app store currently. Make sure that you totally remove the app-store version (1.9.0) and install the 1.10.0 version downloaded from http://mixxx.org/download.php
The Mixxx Manual, Wiki and FAQ are the best place to start for documentation and support.

Thanks, im downloading it now.

Going back to the vinyls, do you know if Ms Pinky's works with Mixxx?
i see some features of Pinkys software that makes me think i wan to use it in the future (like the Live integration) but wouldnt like to need to buy vinyls again.
Actually maybe Traktor and/or seratos vinyl works with Ms Pinky software, ill check that out too.
