Porting Mixxx

Postby Architekt » Sun May 27, 2012 12:22 am

Hi there,

I'm doing an engineering project for my degree that involves porting Mixxx. My idea at the moment is to run Mixxx without a UI (I read that this can be done?) and instead use tablet devices to run TouchOSC, which will communicate with a computer running PD (PureData) and Mixxx. I was hoping to port Mixxx to be able to access it from PD, but I'm not quite sure how to do this and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?

The basic aim of this is to control Mixxx from touch screen devices and to have the quickest possible response time with volume, gain and EQ using a MIDI controller. I was also wondering if using Mixxx without a UI would increase it's response time? I'm hoping to run a MIDI controller through PD in order to lower it's response time by having it control volume and EQ in PD, and not Mixxx.

So yeah, thoughts on this approach? And any help with porting Mixxx would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ben

I'd be interested in seeing how this goes and what you need to do to get there. I've got a few ideas for projects using large bits of mixxx under the hood for audio playback and mixing, with a very different UI on top.

Hey there,

It sounds like what you're trying to do doesn't involve porting Mixxx much at all (if I'm understanding what you're saying). Today you can already use TouchOSC via a MIDI bridge to control Mixxx. There are even some TouchOSC mappings in the controller subforum (I think).

Connecting Mixxx to PD sounds interesting and potentially a use case to keep in mind for our new effects system (e.g. we would model it as an effects-send sort of thing where we would route audio channels out to PD and get a modified version of it back). What particularly did you have in mind for the PD integration? You can actually do this sort of thing today with JACK (at least for the individual decks or master output).

Thanks
