Hey, I was having this same problem, I just went into preferences and changed the skin to "outline", which is a larger version of the current one. That made it render right but I can't drag and drop tracks into the player, I have to right-click on them. However, when I first start up Mixxx, it's messed up again until I change the skin. ?

You ( and several other too - see forum search ) are hit by some know nasty bugs.
Player 1 visual corruption - https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/521509
Increase Interface performance only after skin change - https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/620832

There have been made some improvement in the upcoming Mixxx 1.8 final ( you are using 1.7.2).
The Mixxx Manual, Wiki and FAQ are the best place to start for documentation and support.
Please report any bugs you find to our Bug Tracker.
