Linux Mint LXDE Mixxx wont start from menu only terminal

Postby end user » Sat Dec 03, 2011 8:12 am

Ok well I just switched two computers to Linux MInt LXDE to have a gnome free system and discovered that Mixxx wont start from both computers unless I start it from the terminal.

On my notebook with Dell 1720

-Computer-
Processor : 2x Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz
Memory : 3094MB (382MB used)
Operating System : Linux Mint 11 LXDE
OpenGL Renderer : GeForce 8400M GS/PCI/SSE2
I'm using the restricted driver for the video card that can be installed from within Mint.

I get this on start up

This if from my desktop running Mint 11 LXDE 32bit. I'm gonna reload Mint 11 Gnome 64 and see what happens because I'm pretty sure it worked fine with that version of Mint

System info

Code: Select all

Re: Linux Mint LXDE Mixxx wont start from menu only terminal

Postby rryan » Sat Dec 03, 2011 8:17 am

Could you check what command the menu item is issuing? On GNOME we run Mixxx like this:

Code: Select all
pasuspender mixxx

This tells PulseAudio to get out of the way so Mixxx can use the soundcard. Could you try that command from a terminal? If you don't have the pasuspender command or PulseAudio is not installed on Linux Mint LXDE then that's the issue. I would update the shortcut to not use pasuspender in that case.

Cheers,
RJ

I get this

The program 'pasuspender' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-utils

I'll install pasuspender' and see what happens i a few just doing an update on Mint LXDE

Does the Mixxx window not pop up?

Once I installed pulseaudio-utils it does work now but if I run it through the terminal I still see the warnings. Can those be ignored?

Yea, those warnings are generally issues with Qt and your graphics driver. If it doesn't cause crashes then it's probably fine.

So is there a problem with QT because I get those errors on three systems

Netbook with Mesa Driver
Toshiba Laptop Intel drivers.
Dell Inspirion Nvidia drivers that came with Mint
Dell XPS 8000 ATI drivers that came with Mint

Well I haven't see any crashing issues but will be doing long run time tests today and tomorrow. Hercules RMX works fine.

On second thought, I don't think those messages are errors. We used to have a crash bug related to those messages but it was an issue on our side.
