Mixxx 1.10.0 Os X 10.4 mp3 and m4a loads as static

Hello all!

I'm having a problem where I can load aiff files just fine, but mp3 and m4a's play as solid white noise (and show up as such in the waveform). Like I said, aiff files play fine, and load in the waveform fine as well.

Strange issue! I did try turning normalization off, but it had no improvement. Any ideas?

Mixxx 1.10.0 uses CoreAudio for M4As and possibly for MP3s as well. You might need to check your system software for corruption and/or see if there are any stability updates.

Ditto here. Nothing but static with the occasional slight variation. Using Mixxx 1.10.0 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (PowerPC). AIFFs play beautifully on same setup.

Can you play the files in other audio applications that use CoreAudio for decoding?

I have never had any problem with these MP3s before whether in iTunes or Serato. Additionally I have Sound Studio 3 and Fission on the computer and have never experienced any problems. I just installed that same Mixxx version on an Intel Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.8 and had no trouble loading MP3s (unsurprisingly). I'll use the same MP3 at home on the problem computer and see if it comes in as static and report back. Let me know if you need any other info as I would be happy to help track down the problem.

Yes, it's only on a PPC. I just tried an MP3 that worked on an Intel Mac and it does not work on the PPC. I am running OS X 10.5.8 on a PowerBook G4, 1.67 GHz, with 1 GB RAM.

It's a damn old computer but considering AIFFs work as they should it seems that there's something outside the ancient hardware.

Yeah, it should work fine. Oh, can you try turning off ReplyGain analysis and re-loading the track metadata?

Considering there hasn't been any new posts or updates, I guess nothing has changed. I first thought the white noise might be due to loading the library from USB, but clearly it is a problem with PPCs. So the only 2 options are waiting for an update (which sucks and might not even work) or try to find an old version that is compatible, however the only ones I can find there are either for PC or Intel Macs...
