Mixxx crashes system

Postby luys » Mon Jan 19, 2009 8:13 pm

Hello folks,

i've a problem while launching mixxx. The problem is that is cannot even launch it. Everytime I try to the whole system freezes. I have no external djmixer connected - yet. I only wanted to try the functionality of mixxx.
I tried to get a trace where's the problem; i've installed the opengl libraries for QT (i do not like animations... ;) ), switched to a fully-realtime kernel and tried to launched as different users, with and without jack... But always the same behavior. Does anybody know why the program crashes during startup?
Btw, the first dialog to select the path to my audiofiles appears, but then it freezes.

Any suggestions?

fyi; system used is a gentoo linux, 2.6.26 kernel, envy-24 soundcard, nvidia gl extensions (gf4).

cheers,
luis.

Yes, i've started it from the terminal. Because the system freezes I cannot create any snapshot. The most recent Debug-Output is something like "Bad file descriptor". But I will try to pipe the output somewhere, getting a written result.

Still no logs. I'll try to pipe the output to somewhere.
Perhaps a downgrade from 1.6.0 shows any effect...

Hi,

i've tried the current SVN version, but I couldn't compile it from scratch. So I took the lateset release (1.6.1). But the same issue: After closing the first dialog where I chose the Musiclibrary, it hangs the system. I can't track the error:
Code: Select all
mixxx 2&>/tmp/log

does not log further messages because the system crashes before the cache is written to disk. Maybe I'll retry it with a networkdrive, but does anybody know which part could cause such a problem?

I don't unterstand I what order the components are loaded. So it maybe crashes when executing a subsystem. Because I don't like Qt and I use a minimalised Qt-Library (4.3) with OpenGL support - could this be the problem? Maybe initializing the Graphic-Subsystem? Any suggestions?

cheers,
luis.

hi luis,
i've been asking around on the #mixxx channel... Got new things to try ;-)
First one: Please do a
Code: Select all
ldd /path/to/mixxx
and post its results.

Note, Mixx does not crash - the whole system freezes! A crash whould be easier to check. The same version - compiled under MsWindows does work fine on the _same_ machine. Ok - it uses an other version of Qt (i won't compile Qt for Windows).

Any suggestions?

Code: Select all
   libGL.so.1 => /usr/lib/opengl/nvidia/lib/libGL.so.1 (0xb7c47000)

Could that be an issue? I don't have a Linux system with an nVidia card to test on but should it maybe link to a different libGL.so.1? Like a non, nvidia version?

I'm totally shooting in the dark here, I might be completely off base.

Another suggestion would be to do an 'strace' and have it stream the output over the network in real-time so at least have some idea of where in the process it is crashing.

Or maybe gdb would help, but I've never used gdb so I can't really make any practical suggestions there.

Hi,
got a nvidia card here too. Part of my ldd is
Code: Select all
libGL.so.1 => //usr/lib64/opengl/nvidia/lib/libGL.so.

and mixxx runs fine. (I'm using nvidia-drivers 180.22)

Hm, I'm running the nv driver; but there where no differences between the nvidia and nv driver.

I thought that the OpenGL things could cause such problems. But can I disable using OpenGL in mixxx directly?
