Computer screen glare

Postby Spindoctor » Sun Apr 08, 2012 12:04 pm

Does anyone have comments or suggestions for reducing glare on computer screens? Problem, if DJ'ing outside, even in a tent or trailer, the sun can totally wash out the computer screen till you can't see it.

I know there are screens for privacy, where you can't see the screen unless you're directly in front fo the computer, but do these work for sun glare? I've even tried putting the computer in a box to cover it; very awkward and it does not work well.

You're not talking about glare so much as ambient light... you just need a brighter screen. :) Those privacy filters actually make the screen appear dimmer so they probably won't work for your use case. Try comparing the light output specs of various monitors (usually given in candelas.) You might also try wearing polarized sunglasses which will reduce the amount of light coming into your eyes, allowing your irises to open up more and hopefully see more of the computer.

The classic trick which I've applied to small LCD monitors being used outside in the past is to build a shade that extends out from the screen along the top and both sides from cardboard and tape. Like this.
