Setup Idea - What do you think?

My buddy and I are both DJ's who like to do house parties and such around town but have different systems. I like to use Mixxx and my Numark Mixtrack Pro. He uses Serato Scratch and uses a Numark Mixtrack. We talked the other day about doing a show together, somehow combining our controllers and mixing between each other.

The way we plan on doing this is each having our own MIDI controller attached to our own computers, and then having both the outputs of the controllers connected to the channel 1 and 2 inputs on a standalone mixer. Then the mixer would be connected to our sound system.

This would work by setting the cross-fader on the standalone mixer all the way to the right while I mix, then to the middle as he mixes a track into mine, then all the way over to the left so he can mix. While one person is mixing alone the other is managing the EQ's and effects, or feeling out the party, getting requests and such.

What do you guys think about this system?

Sounds good to me. The only thing I would suggest is to disable the cross-fader on the main mixer and leave both of your channel faders up. That way you don't have to touch the master mixer at all once it's set and each of you can do what you like at any time. I've done tag-team setups like this before and leaving the other guy's fader open has been great for when inspiration strikes. (One time, while I was playing Meatloaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Light, after the girl gets mad in the song, the other DJ dropped a South Park sample "Dude, you just got your ass kicked by a girl!" from out of nowhere and it was hilarious!)

Thanks! That's a good point about leaving the crossfader on the main mixer in the middle and just using the volume faders on our own controllers. Ill let you know how it goes!
