Detachable / Seperate Decks, Playlist, and Mixer

Postby JessenPeriasamy » Tue May 15, 2012 4:39 pm

Hello everyone. i just downloaded Mixxx and i find its very interesting. i normally use traktor. I have two touchscreen lcds and i want to use Mixxx to dj with them. Can anyone guide me how to create a skin (or if there is any skin already done) with Seperate Deck. Seperate Playlist. Seperate Mixer. so as to have one deck on first screen, another one on the second screen and mixer and playlist on laptop screen. i want to split decks playlist and mixer for it to be simple. Thanks in advance waiting for your reply :D

We want to do that too but our skinning engine is not currently capable of that. We plan to overhaul it for Mixxx v2.0.

That would be fantastic Pegasus as we want to use touchscreens with Mixxx. So when will the 2.0 version be ready? overall nice little software ;)

however it would be simpler if you could make Mixxx 2.0 routing seperate decks to seperate monitors in the preferences interface menu :D

v2.0 is a ways off yet. It's defined more by a list of features than a date. (That is, when those features are ready, we'll call it v2.0. :) ) Routing to separate monitors is not easy to do cross-platform, unless Qt, the main library Mixxx is based on, offers something. We haven't yet looked into that since we have other things that are higher priority. But feel free to ask around the Qt community and post your findings on our wiki under a page called "Multiple monitor support" under the Features Discussion section of the main page.

Quick Note: i resolved my problem! You just have to look at this very simply. U want two decks right? so why not make a copy of the application? lol. Thats what i did. On mac, i made a copy of the "mixxx" application. then on my skin folder under show package contents - resources - skins, i cropped the player with Photoshop (its a PNG file normally named as background.png) , you may use whatever image editor you prefer, then made a text label to label it as Player A or B. Do that for both and also for the playlist and effects if you want to. and thats it load both applications and use seperate decks on seperate screens.

So you have two copies of Mixxx running with a custom skin? Sure, that works, but you can't cross-fade between them and only one of them can use the sound card exclusively (unless they're using the system mixer.)

well i planned to use the decks via external soundcard and Mixer. i dnt think we can use a single soundcard unless you use Soundflower or wiretap audio to audio route the decks to the soundcard :D
