config the keyboard shortcuts

Postby jvacek996 » Thu Apr 28, 2011 10:50 pm

Hey, i wanted to ask whether there is any GUI or a wizard for setting up the keyboard shortcuts. I want to use Mixxx instead of the übernooby VDJ but this is one thing i am missing a lot. For example i want to have my lower keyboard row ( \ y x c v b n m , . - ) to represent the crossfader. therfore \ = -1, y = -0.8, x = 0.6 all the way up to - =
I am having a real trouble with rconfiguring the standard.kbd because it won't warn me if there are any shortcuts colliding etc. This would also be a nice new feature, GUI for modding mappers both MIDI and generic keyboard.
If anyone could rewrite the original standard.kbd for me so that the crossfader works as described i would be greatful. i think it's just a matter of getting the hang of it, and well i don't have such skill.

Thanks in advance!

Currently a keyboard configuration wizard does not exist.
But i am pretty sure you have the skills to edit a text file.

The shortcuts are defined in a text file, and can be changed by the user.
Code: Select all
Linux: /usr/local/share/mixxx/keyboard/Standard.kbd.cfg
MacOS X: <Mixxx bundle>/keyboard/Standard.kbd.cfg
Windows: <Mixxx directory>\keyboard\Standard.kbd.cfg

Open the file with a decent editor like NotepadPlus or PSpad.
Just edit,save and restart Mixxx.

Make a backup of the original Standard.kbd.cfg first.

The controls available for mapping are listed here: http://mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/midi_controller_mapping_file_format#ui_midi_controls_and_names

BTW. Configuring the lower keyboard row to represent the crossfader is not possible. However there is a control for crossfader left/right and crossfader small left/small right

Re: config the keyboard shortcuts

I've been trying to do a similar thing like this for the past little bit, I've read every bit of information I could find on how to do it (within the Area that Mixxx has such as Wiki's Faq's and other Posts) so far and nothing has helped, what I'm looking to do is make the "H"+"G" Crossfade keys move slower sorta like how the Auto DJ Crossfades instead of the Jerky repressing buttons repeatedly about 10 times to go from one side to the other, and make either "Shift+H" and "Shift+G" or "B"+"N" a quicker crossfade which goes from Deck 1 to both then to Deck 2 so about a 50% slide on the bar.

Anyone know if this is possible or have any tips as to how the Key Bindings work through text files or how to write them properly?

I tried using ranges they said under Midi controller commands but I couldn't figure that out... I'm using Windows 7 + Mixxx 1.9.0.

@Nez
This is not possible in Mixxx 1.9.0. It needed some changes in the underlaying code, not only the keyboard mapping.
The upcoming Mixxx 1.10 will have an updated default keyboard mapping, where SHIFT+G / SHIFT+H moves the crossfader left/ right by 1/100th.

However, there is no such thing like an automatic fade button which automatically moves the Crossfader left or right.

Yes i would be good thing to have a "easy to reach" button fpr the mic on the keyboard as maybe the left Alt button. Ican not find out how to configure the Standard.kbd.cfg to get this working.

Did you try edit the Standard.kbd.cfg as linked in the 2nd post with a text editor?
You basically only have to edit a single line in there:

For example, change
Code: Select all
[Microphone]
talkover `

to
Code: Select all
[Microphone]
talkover /

Note that you can`t use the Modifier keys like ALT or SHIFT exclusively for a control.
