New to Mixxx, help with hardware setup on laptop

Postby Krotos » Mon Sep 19, 2011 2:13 pm

Hi all, I am new to Mixxx but am tech savvy :)
My question is pretty basic, I have 1 technics 1210 and a laptop. I am thinking of running the latest version of mix (no single deck support yet) and I am open to suggestions with regards to USB controllers etc...

What would people reccomend for a USB controller that gives me pretty basic features?

Just need simple 2 chan mixing with vinyle control if possible?

Can`t recommend a specific controller but wanna give some notes that may be helpful.

Mixxx can work with any MIDI controller that has drivers for your OS: you simply need a mapping file to tell Mixxx how to understand it.
Mixxx comes bundled with a number of MIDI mapping presets for the devices listed in the wiki.

Have a look at http://www.mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/hardware_compatibility for an overview of devices that are supported out of the box.
The Mixxx Manual, Wiki and FAQ are the best place to start for documentation and support.

Is it possible to use a USB controller and a 1210 on the same setup? I just need the 1210 for scratching :)

I have money to invest on this setup but only if it will do what I need it to do, I just need an oldskool basic 2 input for mixing and 1 for scratching :P

Definitely. Just make sure you don't try to scratch the same Mixxx deck with the controller and the turntable at the same time or it will sound really strange. :)

Make sure whatever sound interface you use has a built-in phono pre-amp as well (it will say Phono on the jacks or a selector switch.)

Have you considered using only a controller but with a platter large enough for your tastes? The Numark NS6 and NS7 come to mind as well as the Stanton SCS.1d. (Mixxx's scratching support for moving platter controllers (NS7, SCS.1d) isn't 100% yet though but we're working on that too.)
