Mixxx & HP pavilion dv6787el

Hi everybody!!
I'm very new to Mixxx world... and, generically, to djing devoted program.
My problems is very simple.
I've installed mixxx on my Ubuntu 10.04 system, without any particular issue.
I don't really know, instead, if it makes sense to use this program with my laptop, an HP pavilion dv6787el (a technical link with description will bo posted as soon as possible).
Will I be able to hear, for example, next track in the headphones while the other is playing in the loudspeaker?
... I'm really at the beginning and beg your pardon for my stupid question (and for my English... I'm from Italy, so it's not my first language!)

I think I have a Realtek ALC268 chipset on a Intel 82801H sound card.

How can I know how many audio channels I can safely handle with this hardware?

Do aplay -l and see how many sub-devices show up. Nearly all built-in laptop chips have only one stereo output, so you'll need to buy at least one external sound card. See here for more information: http://mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/faq?&#ho ... ain_output

It looks like my sound card could manage two channels, but I am not sure about it.
I am just trying to watch mixxx responses.

Possibly, but you'd have to use the digital output as one of the outputs. Check in Mixxx: if you can select the analog output for Headphone and the Digital one for Master, it might work, but you'd then need to connect the computer to a receiver with whatever digital connection is offered on the computer, be it coaxial, optical, or via HDMI.
