I feel odd offering advice to an aspiring dj... since im not a "dj" (at least in the traditional sense)... I use mixxx and a control surface to control back tracks for my industrial group and track and arrange "IDM" type tracks. but from my experience, DJing has little to do with "talent". In my [humble] opinion its 90% preparation and 10% execution. With that said, *-know your music-*. If you are a dj on the club circuit, know what is popular at the moment, make sure you have tons of "floor fillers" and practice your transitions and cuts. However this advice doesnt apply to me since im into a less desirable / less "fashionable" scene that allows me more freedom in playing what i enjoy and gives me the freedom to experiment. so with that, what is the nature of the aspiring dj? what type of advice are you looking for?
