If you own or are about to purchase an Electrix Ebox, do you need it to work on Linux?

Yes, I use Linux for audio/DJ work.

It would be nice, but I use Windows/OSX just as much if not more often for audio/DJ work.

No, I never or hardly ever use Linux for audio/DJ work (or at all,) so it doesn't matter to me.

Poll: Electrix Ebox-44 Linux support?

Postby Pegasus » Sat Jan 14, 2012 8:36 am

Electrix is testing a firmware update that will allow the Ebox-44 to work out-of-the-box on Linux. Assuming it's successful, they need to know how many people have (or will soon buy) Eboxes that need the upgrade, because doing it is not a simple process so the unit will need to be shipped to them, so they need to plan for the costs involved.

Since their service center is located in the northwest USA, please also answer part 2 of the poll so they can figure shipping charges.

Thanks for your time!

So regarding our discussion on IRC this is looking like it's more in the works now. Hopefully they will offer a product return for upgrade. That will be very good of them in itself. My beyond the call of duty award will go to them if they offer the cable and flashing software details for a DIY upgrade

I'm in communication with Electrix and we're working on testing and verifying the new firmware. After that's complete and they put a process in place to handle customers with units that need the update, I will post here as soon as I get the relevant information.

My son is looking to get into DJ'ing, and the street price of this device is $100. That's well within my budget, so I'd be more than happy to pick one up if it has Linux support right out of the gate. Now to find some inexpensive decks. :(

Work is in progress on an ALSA workaround as well as a proper firmware fix.

Progress update

Postby Pegasus » Sun Apr 08, 2012 9:33 pm

We're on the verge of submitting an ALSA workaround with all the credit going to Mark Hills of xwax. We hope to do final testing and get it submitted to the kernel this week. This will work with all currently available Eboxes, and I'll post some patches here for those with older-than-bleeding-edge kernels. (You will need to compile a kernel though.)
