some songs play in ultra slow motion

Postby nondescript11 » Sun Dec 25, 2011 11:59 pm

running windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop with the Core i3 processor and 4 gigs of memory with a 500gb hard drive. All of my mp3's play fine in windows media player, but some of the songs play in very slow motion when loaded to either deck in Mixxx. I've tried doing a search through these forums to see if this issue has been addressed already. Please help if you are familiar with my specific problem.

Hi, check your latency to make sure it's not too low. You can do this from the Sound Hardware preferences section. If the songs are playing slowly that means your computer can't keep up with your chosen latency settings. Try picking a different audio API. We suggest using ASIO if your soundcard supports it -- if not you can download an ASIO driver from http://asio4all.com

I have this as well, but it is only some tracks, not all.

My solution was to convert the tracks in question from mp3 to mp3 (no, this is not a mistake, I did mean this!). This seems to have done the trick, and they now play at the correct speed. I suspect that there is something strange with the MP3, although none of the other programs I use have ever exhibited any issues.

Mixxx is especially sensitve to MP3 frame errors, and from what you said, it sounds like there were alot of them in the original files. Re-encoding with a quality encoder will reduce the frequency of such errors and allow the tracks to play better in Mixxx. Normally though, if songs of any file type play too slowly, then it's a latency issue as RJ said.

If you still have the offending tracks, would you mind posting them here or emailing them to me at my forum username @mixxx.org? I'd love to fix the bug that caused Mixxx to process those MP3s wrong.

Thanks,
RJ

How did you fix it? I'm having the exact same difficulty... it plays perfectly in itunes but goes super slow in Mixxx. The tracks were downloaded from the itunes store so I doubt they're corrupted.
