Turntable and Pc config.

Postby ssjwizard » Sun Dec 21, 2008 1:35 am

Ok guys i know this has probably been asked before but maybe not. Im Wondering if the way i want to setup mixxx will work. 2 turntables output split 1 set to phono on my mixer for playing normal records, the other side to an RCA to 1/8th cable. one of them to line in the other to the mic in. front and rear outputs to line inputs on my mixer. i do have a 2nd sound card i could install if they both have to be line in. Also would using 2 sound cards increase or decrease overall latency. my thinking that it would have faster response times with just one sound card but i might be mistakin here. Anyways thats what i want to do so just let me know what you think.

ok so i have setup mixxx on my media pc running in windows 2k professional. i have 2 sound cards the onboard and a 2nd pci soundcard. both use the same cmedia chipset and after playing with configurations my outputs are just fine. however i cannot seem to get vinyl control to work. i have tried swaping the primary recording device a couple times in windows settings. ive set it to the seprate sound cards(cmedia 1 and 2 in my dropdown however the second box does not give me an option for channel for input under any setting i have tried. any ideas what i should attempt to do next.

Hi,
first step - as always - should be to _ensure_ that the sound input is as expected:
1) That the sound input works at all - you may check that by simply recording some vinyl.
A possible pitfall regarding this could be failure to distinguish between "playback" and "record" controls, be it ALSA or some windows controls. As mixxx "listens" to the incoming sound of the control vinyl, you therefore need the check the "record" controls. "Playback" only controls what the soundcard directly emits (e.g. what YOU hear, not the computer - this can be a little confusing in conjunction with "line in"...)
2) Stereo. For vinyl control the inputs definitely need to be in stereo - which is why I wonder if your first said hw-configuration would work: some microphone inputs are just mono.

One more thing: As far as I remember do newer mixxx versions have some sort of visual control of incoming sound - at the configuration dialogs.
Best wishes,

Hi. Been playing about with mixxx for a few days now and just got my hands on some rane/serato vinyl to try the vinyl control. Just wondering about my set up. Going to buy some leads tomorrow so i thought this would be the time to ask.
I'm wanting to use my audio mixer going to as Tascam us144 (stearo input). I' m only going to be using one turntable (mainly for scratching samples etc). Will this work? I worry what will happen if when scratching if cut out the audio feed from the timecode vinyl with my normal crossfader. Will it stop the playback where i left it? Then when i bring the fader back in with the record at a different point (say half a rotation of the record) will it go to that point? Or do i have to buy a midi controller mixer to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jamie
