in preferances midi device its not giving me a list of controllers to select lawrencedj

Can you please give us more details? What controller(s) do you have connected? What OS are you on? What version of Mixxx?

Also make sure you have your MIDI controller connected before you start up Mixxx, otherwise you`ll see the "NO MIDI devices available" screen in Mixxx and can`t select any controller as well.

If you did and your controller is detected, verify that your controller is Enabled using the small checkbox to the left in the midi dialog. You should then be able to load a midi mapping from the drop-down- menue to the right.
