Order of tracks in Auto DJ

Postby adlerhn » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:39 am

Hi,

First of all, congratulations for the great application.

I am using the latest development version for Ubuntu.

I have added a few songs to a new playlist, chosen the order, and select Add to Auto DJ.

However, in the Auto DJ song list, the order of the songs is not the same as the one that I arranged in the playlist.

Furthermore, I have tried, but I can not change the predefined order of the songs.

Basically, what I intend to do is to have slower songs (not necessarily sorted by BPM) at the beginning, and faster and louder songs later.

Am I missing something, or is it not possible to decide the order of the songs in the Auto DJ screen?

Regards,

Jose.

Hi Jose,

You should be able to drag-and-drop songs in the auto-DJ playlist to change their order. Is this not working? Did you build Mixxx from source? What version are you using?
The Mixxx Manual, Wiki and FAQ are the best place to start for documentation and support.

Just FYI, I have the same issue of no re-order ability in Auto DJ too. Same as other user who reported that it did work at first, and now for some reason it doesn't. Any new tracks added to play list are dropped in alphabetically by Song Title. No way to move them once dropped inside either.

I'm going to chime in here as well. I'm experioencing a LOT of trouble with AutoDJ. So much so that the two of us using it, working together, have decided to continue using the old software for auto use until MIXXX gets fixed.

Mind you, I love MIXXX overall, but there are issues with AutoDJ. If these are fixed life will be better and we can use it exclusively.

Anyway, here's a rundown of the problems:

I went into AutoDJ mode at a gig. It loaded and worked perfectly. After three songs my friend wanted to make an announcement. I disabled AutoDJ and waited for the song to end. After he made his announcement, the last song reloaded and played again, then it loaded into the OTHER deck and played AGAIN! I got so disoriented that I was forcing loads into the deck just to play ANYTHING else! It turned into a major mess of trying to play songs over and over again, to the point where I had to exit MIXXX and go to something else. Later in the evening I reloaded MIXXX and used it for the rest of the night -- in manual mode. Manual is great -- played perfectly the rest of the night.

Today, at home, I tried playing with AutoDJ to see why it's acting up. After stopping, if I delete the song at the top of the list (that just played) it will pick up and play properly. But it SHOULD delete or skip this song without my need to do this.

THEN, I noticed the order of songs cannot be changed. I load MIXXX once, it's in order of artists. I exit and load again and it's in order of song titles. Drag and drop, shuffle, none of it works. ALSO, for some strange reason many of the songs are in there twice! How did THAT happen? What's worse, I can't clear this list -- I'll have to spend hours upon hours deleting the songs one by one. THEN I'll try reloading and see if it works any better. Isn't there some kind of "clear list" button? Youch -- now I'll know better than to load more than a few songs in there at a time!!!!! Yes, AutoiDJ is unusable. Manual is perfect.

One of our contributors has made a number of improvements to Auto DJ for Mixxx v1.11.

hi there. can anyone help us with this query we are new to Mixxx and trying to put together a playlist for our wedding. we have the order which in a lot of cases is based on BPM but when we drop it into the AutoDJ it makes up its own mind about the order! The play list is lone and loosely based on eras so we need to make sure we can keep the order of songs intact. We get married in 2 weeks so are starting to panic! If anyone has any advice on how to sort this is would be really appreciated. Thanks :o

You can try the 1.11 alpha build in the General forum which has the AutoDJ improvements included

Specifically, the "Sneak Peak Alpha 2."

I might add that when I installed this on my laptop, I had problems with being able to manipulate the AutoDJ queue. (Darn it, couldn't they have fixed THAT?) But then I deleted the library file and reloaded the library from scratch. Works perfectly, has not hiccupped even once. I can move the AutoDJ queue to my heart's content.

From the MIXXX Wiki, here's how you access the library file:

Make sure Mixxx is closed, then look for “mixxxtrack.xml” (or “mixxxdb.sqlite” if using Mixxx 1.8.0 or later) in:

■Windows: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mixxx
■Linux/Mac OS X/BSD/Unix: ~/.mixxx (if using Mixx 1.9.0 : db-file on Mac OS X is located under: ~/Library/Application Support/Mixxx/)

Since I've cleared the library a few times, I took that %USERPROFILE% . . . line and copied it to a Notepad file. This makes it easy to locate and delete this library file. Since the file and folder is hidden, this is how you can find it. I STRONGLY suggest doing this before downloading the new Alpha 2 version. Then, load the library as though it's brand new. Downloading a new version of MIXXX does not clear this file; you need to clear it manually.

As some of you know, I was chomping at the bit for the AutoDJ improvements to make the scene, as this is something I've wanted to use rather heavily. Since Alpha 2 came out this has been working beautifully. HUGE improvement over the former version!
