2 microphone's or 2 Headsets's ???

Postby gio » Thu Mar 22, 2012 11:19 am

Hi!

First of all sorry about my terrible english!
Second i am not a DJ... :(

So, to the point now.I like to use mixxx for making my internet-radio-show. But i need to have 2 microphone's connected or even better 2 headset's one for me and one for the other presenter.
At this time i use only a macbook air and i have some USB-headset's. But it is not possible to "register" 2 microphone's even not 2 headset's. So i want to ask if their is another possibility to make possible via mixxx to have 2 people speaking, the music should play from autoDJ and the music should go to the headphones but the speaking no. And all together (the speaking and the music) should broadcast to the radio server (the last is OK).

Please let me know if i need for example another kind of mixer or other device to have the desired result.

many thanx in advance!!!

P.S. The mac book air has only limited port's and connection-possibility look here

Ports : Two USB 2.0 ports (up to 480 Mbps); SD card slot
Audio: Stereo speakers, omnidirectional microphone, headphone minijack
I'am using mixxx on a New MacBook Air Snow Leopard with the iPhone headset und a Logitech USB headset.

First off, your English isn't terrible, especially considering that people are cocntributing from every corner of the earth.

Second, I believe a lot of MIXXX users are not DJ's either -- as for me, I've never done this professionally, at least as a livelihood, but I've played music at shows and people love it and demand more, so I must be doing something right So you can call me one I suppose. Someone in Clearwater, Florida, began calling me the "Spin Doctor" and the name stuck.

Two microphones? Your best bet is going to be a mixer. Not the DJ mixer that provides for two turntables with a crossfader, but a 6-channel, 8-channel, or whatever, mixing board; enough channels to fill your needs.

I don't know your budget or your total needs, but I've got a handy little board that's a Yamaha MG102C. It's a small portable board that performs really well and lets me do all sorts of work, both production and for gigs. Don't remember the price, couple hundred I guess. For hobby use you might make a visit to your local music store and see what they have in the used, trade-in department. Best bet for headphones is to use two jacks from two hardware sources, or get some kind of splitter -- seems these are around for very little money. Generally they have volume controls that allow each user to adjust.

Is your hobby radio a Part 15 transmitter, or some sort of computer streaming audio? The output of your mixer can go directly into a part 15, or to another computer. Two computers seem like a lot of hardware, but they can be had for cheap or free -- people trade them in every year or two, and the old ones often get tossed. One of my workhorses is an old 32-bit XP that simply didn't get traded in.

In a way, all this seems a bit scary. Not that long ago a radio console meant spending tons of money, and home equipment didn't even come close in performance. Nowadays with a computer and some spare junk, one can assemble a rig that blows the pants off hardware that was studio standard just a few short years ago.

Yeah, a small mixer would work for you. I'd look at offerings from Behringer ($) Yamaha ($$) and Makie ($$)

Thank s for your replays !

But isn't it possible to have 2 microphones with another external sound card for example???

And on "TALK" both microphones should be able to transfer speech to the master mix ???

I think that this should not to be so difficult, or am i wrong ???

All this because I just want to make my broadcast just with my MacBook air and few headset moving from place to place and without other devices ( less or more heavy ) ;)

Thanx for your help in advance!!!!

It's not possible with the code as-is in Mixxx, since there's only one mic input. The code would have to be extended to provide a second mic input. Please file a bug for that, as it should be fairly straightfoward to do.

if your using linux then you can do this already:

http://jackaudio.org/

but you've got some reading to do.....

it *might* work on osx too.

in the end your best bet really is to use a hardware mixer though
