uninstall mixxx completely to reinstall

Postby bigalstyle » Mon Mar 26, 2012 5:37 pm

I have been using mixxx on windows 7 for at least 2 years now. but recently with the new version 10.1 for 64bit it doesn't load my library properly. it freezes on mixxx recordings while scanning. anyway, i thought i could uninstall and reinstall mixxx to help..it didn't It still freezes on loading library, even i changed preferences in library for folder it will not recognize the new path. Anyway , anyway to completely wipe off mixx and all the saved data, so i can reinstall??? Also the reason I think I need to wipe mixxx completely is an error comes up the mixx has been corrupted.... I have deleted all mixxx programs and uninstalled but when i reinstall it still doesn't work properly, it still freezes and will not scan library.....

Okay, I ran into such a problem the day after starting to play with MIXXX. You cannot fix the library by uninstalling and reinstalling MIXXX, but you CAN fix it by deleting the library database.

The clincher: This database is a hidden file in a hidden folder, buried so well that I could not find it period, even after changing my settings to show all hidden files. But you can do a search and bring it up. once you find this file, delete it, open MIXXX, and reinstall your library.

Instructions on how to do this are here: http://mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/troubles ... brary_file

It would be nice if, in a future version, there would be an option somewhere in the Preferences file where one can clear the library and start over.

Win 7 it's C:> Users> AppData (Hidden)> Local> Mixxx

Hope this helps.

i cant find any mixxx folder in 'local' , the only thing is 'local' is a folder marked 'microsoft'
is there some way i can run a general search for the specific file?

Windows: Go to Start, Computer, select Local Disk (C:) drive. In the address line at the top of the window, where it says something like Computer>C:, type in the following: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mixxx -- and hit return. Something I did, is copy this line and paste it into a Notepad file. So anytime I want to do this, I can simply paste this into the window.

This will bring up the hidden folder. The file you want is Mixxxdb.sqlite. Delete it. Then go into MIXXX and it will ask to download a library, as though it's the first time you've ever opened the program.

As for suggesting this in the bug menu, it's not really a bug, just a convenience if there was an option to do this without the need for locating hidden files.
