Playlist exporting

Postby s1ugh34d » Wed Mar 09, 2011 7:58 pm

I have been using Mixxx for a short time now (>2 months), Love the interface, can't wait to use some midi features.

As I build playlists, crates, and tags I have only found a few issues, the big one, playlist exporting.

Currently I have to select the playlist and then drag it to another program that can save playlist files. I can't seem to make a grate file either, but I haven't dissected the database files or xml for that matter.

Knowledge about playlists is in the manual, but very limited other than how to use them. I figured this would be the best place to ask, I did some forum search, but only came up with playlist problems, no one mentioning the export or saving outside Mixxx.

Using Mixxx 1.9

I have made a small python program that can export crates as an XML file. So far I have only tried it on Mac OS X and Linux.

Great program! Thinking of using it for my wedding, hire a PA and do the DJing myself and save on over-priced DJs that play the same old crap.

Long story short, my library is on a external HDD and I set up MIXXX on two PCs. However, playlists created on one PC don't show up on the other (even though MIXXX is installed on the external HDD, NOT the PC HDDs). So exporting playlists would be a great option for future versions. At the moment I just have to re-create the playlists from scratch, or try and remember the modifications. Will try the software set up above, but would be great if the MIXXX crew could add an export feature to the next update.

My guess is all the information is stored somewhere, but obviously not on the externall HDD (because I am using the same .exe file- just on different PCs), so if anyone has an idea of where the playlist info is saved, maybe I can copy that.

Cheers.

Nice script, I use Mixxx on windows, DSL, and Mac...sooo I'll get to use the script accordingly. I really just want a History feature similar to Scratch Live, one click save as CSV or TXT.

Thanks for the Help!

the database is stored in the following directory on win7:
C:\users\YOURUSERNAME\appdata\local\mixxx\

note that the appdata folder is hidden by default

i have two different users on my lappy, one for everyday usage and one for music. usually i create my crates/playlists in the first one any just copy the database from its folder to the same under the second user and voilá, i have the same there too

this also stands for the itunes database as well (of course its in a different library but copying works the same way)

Mixxx 1.10 will have playlist export and import to PLS and M3U with relative path support. You can try the features right now, if you compile Mixxx yourself. The branch is: https://code.launchpad.net/~mixxxdevelo ... em_browser

I just posted a modified version of this script that imports and exports playlists, and can optionally export a single playlist by name.

It's at http://zappa.brainiac.com/playlistport.py

Thanks to Phillip for the initial script, it is always easier to modify something that exists than create something from scratch!
