Well, good looping comes with good BPM guessing.

BTW, the GSOC page says mixxx can already host lapsda plugins. whats the deal on that?

Do you think you could drop a pair of these in? or some other filter algo from musicdsp?
there must be something simple you can do to add filters. this is a 4pole LP already in C++, just add 2 more knobs to the gui and a midi destination, bam, instant filter

Yeah, for sure. I'd definitely encourage someone to just run off and code this!

Look at src/engine/engineflanger.cpp in our source tree, copy that, and then shove some code in there for a different effect from musicdsp.org. We haven't had good progress on effects in the last 6 months, so making some extra effects by doing this probably going to be the fastest way to do it. (You could hack a new effect in in like a few hours, even if you know nothing about Mixxx, as long as you know a bit of C++.)

Thanks for getting back to me albert.
How hard is it to add new modules to the gui/program? so the flanger can come after the filters.

If you don't have any experience with C++, there's a decent set of tutorials that will get you started here:
http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

If you know the basics of C++ (syntax, functions, classes), it probably wouldn't be too difficult, but it depends on how much time you have and how motivated you are.

Does that help?

To anybody interested in implementing effects, I'm working on the new effects system. Implementing an effect is really simple now -- just one file.

If you know C++, take a look at this flanger effect:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mixxxdevel ... effect.cpp
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mixxxdevel ... ereffect.h

It's much easier to implement a new effect now. To test it out, you should check out my effects branch: lp:~mixxxdevelopers/mixxx/features_effects

Once you're done, just put your branch up on Launchpad or send me a patch and I'll merge your effect in.

Cheers,
RJ Ryan

Mixxx can be used as part of a DAW setup with Ardour or Jack Rack via Jack Audio for FX. Unfortunately doing this in Windows is more limited as even the full version of Ableton has limited routing from external sources. There is Jack Audio for Windows but I'm not sure how stable that is. Of course this all depends on the way a DJ works / what they want to do. There may also be advantages to having the FX handled by Mixxx ... easier to set as well. Using Mixxx with a DAW (Ladspa and/or VST FX) opens up a lot of possibilities but can be fiddly to setup.
Spinbacks are still kool
