.mixxx folder is hidden on Mac OSX (library problem)

Postby HotRodJohnny » Sun Dec 27, 2009 12:06 pm

I've been troubleshooting a "clear library" problem on my Mac mini. All tips tell me to delete a mixxxtrack.xml file which is located in a folder named .mixxx. I've looked at the log files and this folder does indeed exist in my home folder-but it is hidden!

Debug: [Main]: Loading playlists and library tracks from XML...
Debug: [Main]: Track::readXML "/Users/~homefolder~/.mixxx/mixxxtrack.xml"

I can't delete the mixxxtrack.xml file to correct my library problem. I hope this gets fixed in 1.8 (or at least 1.7.2).

I don't use a Mac, but the obvious suggestion is to just unhide folders, delete mixxxtrack.xml, then hide the folders again.

Failing that, open up a terminal and type rm ~/.mixxx/mixxxtrack.xml

Mac OS X hides a lot of folders by prefixing them with a full stop. It's nothing to be worried about it's done just to reduce visual distraction whereas in Linux these folders are visible by default.

Enter these commands in applescript editor and press run to make invisible files visible:

do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE "
do shell script "killall Finder"

Enter these commands in applescript editor and press run to make invisible files invisible again:

do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE "
do shell script "killall Finder"

just remembered a much easier way to make the .mixxx folder visible

shift-command-g or go to folder command in finder Go menu
enter
Code: Select all
~/.mixxx/

Thanks, pizzacake. I added that to the wiki page.

I've already tried all of the above, but whenever I want to look up ~/.mixxx/ it says that the folder has not been found =/

Sidey, the location has changed with Mixxx 1.9

The new location in MacOS is
Code: Select all
/Library/Application Support/Mixxx/
The Mixxx Manual, Wiki and FAQ are the best place to start for documentation and support.

Thanks, I found it now :) Well weird though, cause I already looked in there earlier today and there was no Mixxx Folder in the Application Support.

Right, I'm back on the programm now. I just opened it up and the whole library was there once again. Problem is, that there is no Mixxx folder in the application support anymore. Is there any other way I can get rid of it? The only thing that shows up for Mixxx at all is the programm

Also, I know this is the wrong topic for it, but while I'm already at it: Is there any way of just importing certain playlists into the Mixxx library rather than the entire library off iTunes? I can only use about 1/3 of the library and it's a pain in the ass having to find anything in there.
