Synchronize Echo with BPM

Postby psychoquaker » Sat Apr 08, 2017 2:23 pm

Hello Mixxx developers,

would it be possible to integrate a BPM synchronized Echo effect?
Should be very easy to do, just set the delay to 1/(BPM/60)....

Best regards,
Manuel

This is definitely on the wishlist. It will take some careful design work to make it work well with different controllers.
I heard FLAC and I haven't gone back.

Is there any progress on the echo effect sync with BPM?
I'm still very interested in it...

Yes, although there are still some details to work out.

I am also highly interested in this. In fact, when this issue gets solved, I will buy a new controller

I think that the artifact also appears with feedback different than 1 (running 2.1.0-alpha-pre - build master r6321), but I am not 100% sure.

If you can figure out how to reproduce the effect, please report a bug and attach a recording of it.

I am sorry but I don't know how to report a bug.

In order to reproduce the issue,

Load a song with clear beats in any deck.
(Optional: Create a loop with 1 beat duration)
Configure the echo effect with "Delay" at default position (right click over the Delay knob), "Feedback" at default position, "Ping-pong" at default position and "Send" to maximum.
Play the song, then enable echo effect. Wait after some (2 or 4, for example) beats being played, and then stop the song.

By listening carefully to the echo, one can note a slight delay that accumulates over time. It seems like after reproducing the echo's buffer, it holds a very small amount of time (maybe it is a small percentage of the buffer?) and then it reproduces the buffer again. However, this "small amount of time" should be zero. If "Feedback" is at maximum position, this delay is more easy to be listened, and causes the echo to sound like a machine gun after a few seconds, instead of being syncronized with the beats, as one should expect.

I can confirm the issue.
We are trying to address it here: https://github.com/mixxxdj/mixxx/pull/1256
